The Rules of the Tournament

VOTING ON GAMES:  *** VOTING IS OVER ***

- Each participant picks up to five games - each getting one vote, except his/her favorite one, where it's worth two votes.  The one you indicate as #1 will serve as your two vote game, unless you indicate such.  Include in the vote wheater or not you can judge that game or not.  Don't worry if you can't judge any games you pick. :)

- Place anything you want to say about the rules in the 'MARP Tournament - Rules Voting Thread'.

- Please make your votes in the 'MARP Tournament - Time to Pick Your Games!' Thread.  This way, everything is in one thread. :)  I'm not going to enforce this rule very well, and no, I won't disqualify you if you put it in the wrong thread.  Just a request  :)

- Voting will last about 2 1/2 weeks - it will end June 30th at 23:00 GMT - 7:00 PM Eastern Daylight Time.

The reason for the five game rule is...

GAME SELECTION:

- No clones will be permitted with the exception of the originals not working, or clones which change the style of gameplay.  There will be no more than one game of any type(types are quite specific though...)

DIP SETTINGS:

- Twin Galaxies Settings will be used.  The reason this is is that all recordings when confirmed by the judges will be eligible for the Twin Galaxies Record Book coming out later this year I hear... If we cannot get TG settings, then we will use MAME Default settings.

JUDGES:

- Donut - Lock N' Chase, Gyruss, Pang 3
- Gameboy9 - 2020 Super Baseball, BombJack, ZZYZZYXX
- Chris Parsley - Combat School, Discs of Tron
- Pat Laffaye - Us Vs. Them, Money Puzzle Exchanger, Mr. Do's Wild Ride, Galaga, Judges' recordings, Judge Coordinator

If a judge's decision is unacceptable to the player, it goes to the Judge Coordinator for a final ruling.

VERSION OF MAME USED:

- MAME 35 RELEASE CANDIDATE 2, MAME 34 FINAL or MAME 35 FINAL will be used.  When MAME 35 FINAL is released for Windows, then we will use MAME 35 FINAL ONLY 3 days afterward.

LENGTH OF CONTEST:

- Twelve games are used for this tournament.

- The length of the contest will be from 0000 GMT, July 1st(8pm Eastern Time, June 30th) until 2359 GMT, September 30th(7:59pm Eastern Time).  The Judge Coordinator or the Main Coordinator has the right to extend the deadline for bad server reasons.

VALIDATION OF GAMES:

- All recordings must be dated within the contest dates - so make sure your computer date is right. :)

RECORDING ETIQUETTE:

- All recordings made by a player must beat his/her personal high score for the tournament.  If you scored 50 points in one game, the next upload must be of a higher value.  It can't be 49 points, but it can be 51 points.

- There will be no excessive points leeching in any game.  It is to the judge's discretion to determine wheater a game is points leeching or not.  However, the Judge Coordinator will have the right to overrule the judge.

- Techniques that were banned in the MARP will not be allowed in this tournament.

These Techniques include:

Galaga - It is possible to make enimies stop shooting completely.

- To encourage good sportsmanship, no recording will be accepted three days(72 hours) after it was recorded.  For example, if you record a game on July 14th, you may not submit it after July 28th.

- It is STRONGLY encouraged to include a screenshot of the game at the end of the game.

SCORING:

- A place-ranking system will be used.  Worst score gets 1 point, next to worst gets 2 points, etc.  The maximum score equals the number of participants in the tournament.  So if 10 players are playing in the tournament overall, then 10 points is the first place score.

- Each person who doesn't submit a score is assessed a ZERO for that game.

To be clear...

If ten people are playing, and two people haven't submitted scores, it would be:

10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-0-0

If all people submitted scores, it would be:

10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1
