Tommi Tiihonen has helped reset Zektor's high scores due to slow Sega emulation in the early recording days of MAME. So the top score in Zektor is now 158,800 - not 380,100.
Take a look at the new Seven-Day battle system that Matt Denham is proposing. 8 teams or March 17, whichever is later will be the starting date.
There have been several NVRAM violations as of recent. It was agreed in a public meeting several months ago that use of an NVRAM is illegal except in extraordinary circumstances. The violations may be because the rules page hasn't been updated with such a change. I have fixed that problem. I also added a couple procedure pages in there as well.
The Ghouls N' Ghosts vote has expired with the exception of rule K. The following results are using the assumption that those who said "aye on C only", for example, meant no on everything except C - PLEASE correct me if my assumption is incorrect ASAP. For motion A as a whole, the ayes are 4, and the nays are 8. The nays have it and the motion fails. For motion B, the ayes are 5, and the nays are 7. This motion also fails. Motion C: The ayes are 10, the nays are 3. The ayes have it and the motion carries - therefore, all ghouls recordings may beat loop 2 stage 5 once w/o going to Lucifer, then on the 2nd attempt, s/he must defeat Lucifer or the game is over with no Lucifer bonus.
Today marks the completion of MARP's fourth year of service. So time for another speech - it's probably a good idea to just look at the uploads. :) After these what I hope have been four fun years for all of you, we now have over 20,000 recordings, over 550 people who've submitted at least one recording, and over 360,000 visits to the site. Well - I hope you continue to enjoy all the fun of competition of over 3,000 MAME games here... so... let the games continue! :)
I've started the ULTIMATE ghouls vote. Please place your vote on the three/four motions I've placed. There is no further debate, except maybe for C - because there's been enough of that already. :)
Well MARP now has it's first billion and a half point score courtesy of TECH-D@Team2ch - he scored 1,573,019,639... well I guess the total raw score of MARP is now about 30 billion points now - I wouldn't know, though, because that function is broke. (the total score after search bit)
The 3rd round of voting has now ended. Here are the results:
Knockout -- 6 votes in total
Barry Rodewald 4 ELECTED Lagavulin 2 (oops)
I have completed the score corrections for Ghouls N' Ghosts (stage 10, 2 loop deal) N' Goblins. (5 lives only - thanks to Innuendo for his help) Time for more competition in those games, and the challenge in ghouls has already been put up by TKY@Team2CH... good luck to all competitors.
A little side note... the super search in it's first day didn't count splits and archived games. About two hours after the super search was introduced, that bug was fixed. The point is, when that happened, the clicking on the picture search (which lists all scores from the original game and it's clones) now does split games and archived games as well, whereas it used to not to in some cases. For the technical, both of those use the (gamename, gamename, gamename) search. So basically you can type (pang3,spang) and you'll recieve all recordings in their split form, whereas you got no hits if you tried that before. I love bonus side effects. :)
Merry Christmas to all, happy holidays, etc... as a christmas gift, I give you an expansion of the MARP Super Search - now you can now search by game category, MAME Release (pacman would be under 0.01), and game author. The later is from the MAME Game List, the other two is from the catver.ini file provided by www.qsx.net.
The 2nd round of voting has now ended. Here are the results:
Tournament -- 15 votes in total
Aquatarkus 12 ELECTED Lagavulin 3
Knockout -- 13 votes in total - THIRD ROUND WILL OCCUR - DUE DECEMBER 27, 2001 AT 2359 GMT.
Barry Rodewald 5 Lagavulin 4 Frankie 3 Skito 1 ELIMINATED
Gameboy9 then wrote the following on the message board (in this thread):
I do not have access to FTP at this time, for I am in Boston for the next five days.
Pat Laffaye remains as regulation coordinator.
Lagavulin and Aquatarkus tied, so we'll have to re-vote with those two contenders remaining. The re-vote will be five days in length. Francois Daniel is eliminted because he received the least amount of votes.
J.D. Lowe once again is the chairman. Brian McLean is a coordinator. Lagavulin did NOT receive a "majority". (11 votes) We will re-vote in this one too. Keisuke, Crash, and Francois Daniel are eliminated for having the least number of votes. The contenders remaining are Lagavulin, Barry Rodewald, Skito, and Frankie.
All editors will retain their editorship for recieving 50 % confidence or better.
Click here to cast your round 2 vote. Round two will expire December 22 at 2359 GMT.
The voting has now ended. Here are the results:

All editors received at least 12 'aye' votes out of 16. You don't need to know the details. Do you?
MARP has a new product for you to try. I've created the MARP Super Search - you can now search games by the year of release according to the MAME Game List. OK, maybe it's not a super search so to say, I just thought the name was catchy. :)
It's time to vote for the 2002 coordinators for MARP. The candidates are as follows:
Regulation (pick 1): Q.T. Quazar, Pat Laffaye, Phil Lamat, SportsDude
Tournament (pick 1): Aquatarkus, Phil Lamat, Lagavulin, Francois Daniel
Knockout (pick up to 3): J.D. Lowe, Keisuke, Brian McLean, Barry Rodewald, Skito, Lagavulin, Crash, Frankie, Francois Daniel
Also, all editors are under confidence votes this year - make sure you submit an aye(you're confident) or nay vote for each editor: Pat Laffaye, Ben Jos Walbeehm, Gameboy9, BBH, Barry Rodewald, BeeJay, Skito
In order to vote, you must satisfy all of these requirements:
1. You must have submitted your first recording by June 30, 2001.
2. You must have submitted recordings for at least 1 % of the total number of MAME games. (32)
3. You must have submitted one recording during the months of October and/or November.
Click here to submit your vote if you qualify. You MUST submit your vote through the same email address that you publicly claim (the @ link) on MARP. No @ link, no vote until you make one. You may change your vote as many times as you like until the deadline. Zwaxy will count and report all of the votes. No votes will be accepted after December 17, 2001 at 2359 GMT. Finally, and most importantly, vote for who you feel will coordinate the best. I cannot stress enough that this is NOT a popularity contest. Click here to look at the issues or ask questions of the candidates or editors.
Bombjack's and Bombjac2's recordings were moved to bombjack-m and bombjac2-m respectivly where they will earn zero leaderboard points. The new rule for bombjack and bombjac2 for leaderboard credit is you must play five lives only.
Now that you've enjoyed the Olympiad(I hope :) ), you should enjoy Snipercade's tournament, The 2002 Decatholon. Our own J.D. Lowe will be running this one... we're still in the voting for games... might be a good idea to do that... get your favorite game in there. :)
The 2001 Elections, presented by bananas, are underway with nominations for regulation, tournament, and knockout (MAME Championship) coordinators. Click here to make these nominations... you can read the rules and all that too. There will be a public meeting on Yahoo Chat on Saturday, December 8, at 0000 GMT. (12/7, 7pm eastern) Meet at EFNet's #marp so we can get you on the yahoo chat room successfully. We are doing yahoo chat because that supports voice chatting - although it's, of course, not required. During this public meeting, we will campaign / debate for the 5 positions open. You can also take a crack at any editor who shows up - they're all going under confidence votes if you recall... :)

There's a sixth player joining the 1943kai crowd. Dephi is being permitted back in because of a fairness issue. Email me if you'd like to hear specifics to my decision. The five players who officially qualified for 1943kai remain qualified.

So I went through all of the contra games that were played - and I don't think I noticed anybody winning with a spread gun equipped. There's a challenge for all of you to try if you'd like - beat the game with a spread gun equipped. This is not easy - you have to go through the entire fifth stage without losing a life. Have fun!
Tommi Tiihonen submitted a new bug he found during his quest to score big in Galaga - you'll find this on the bugs page.
MAME Olympiad page was updated. There are now fourteen coordinators signed up. I'd like to point out that some coordinators already submitted rules - they will not be applied until the actual coordination is handed out in case a conflict comes about.
Unless you're talking about the MAME Olympiad. That has to be a major overhaul :) Remember, any game in MAME .01 through MAME .54 is fair game. The deadline for applications of game coordinators is October 7.
... the day MARP went under minor overhaul :)
Nice picture BBH... Don't worry - I'll make it a point to kick you next time I see you :P (check the uploads to see what I mean)
Blost has retaken the lead in Diamond Run with a score of 1,145,590, 20,000 better than Lagavulin. How many lead changes has it been for this game? Gosh if I know.
Jason Dyer - please e-mail me - I need to know your email address for the upcoming Olympiad. Thanks!
Notice I'll probably start doing this for a while until something interesting pops up again. :)
Jason Dyer was the first person this morning to beat the game of Shocking. Brian McLean was also the first person to beat the Irritating Maze Game - which has been in MARP competition since June 24, 1999. Congratulations to both!
